Assessments

Before starting any programme of Speech and Language Therapy, your child will need a complete assessment of their speech and language skills. The assessment process allows difficulties to be identified, and ensures that any future therapy is tailored to meet your child's specific needs as well as to draw on their strengths.

Where does the assessment take place?

The assessment takes place at my home, in Nettleham. (On occasions it may be more appropriate for your child to be assessed at your home - if this is the case, it will be discussed with you prior to arranging the first appointment.)

What happens during the assessment?

During the assessment you'll be asked to provide some background information on your child (a case history) and your child will participate in activities that look at different areas of speech and language development. The assessment usually takes place in a single session lasting about 1 and a half hours. You will be provided with a short report afterwards, giving details on your child's speech and language development, and if appropriate, giving recommendations for therapy.
