Private Speech Therapy in Lincoln and the surrounding area, for children of all ages.
Therapy
Once your child has completed an initial assessment, goals for therapy can be decided. This is done in consultation with you, so that therapy helps to make changes that will be most significant and meaningful for your child and your family.
How often are therapy sessions?
The frequency of therapy sessions is flexible, depending on you and your child's needs. This might mean weekly sessions, or more/ less frequently if needed. Therapy sessions usually last 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Where do the therapy sessions take place?
Therapy sessions generally take place at my home, in Nettleham, Lincoln. There may be times when therapy sessions are undertaken at your child's school / nursery, or at your home, if this would be more appropriate.
What happens in therapy sessions?
Therapy for your child is fun, practical, and centred around the needs of your child and family. There are 4 key areas that therapy can focus on:
-
Helping your child to develop their speech and language skills. Therapy targets are worked on through activities and games that are fun and motivating for your child. You will be given ideas for activities to do with your child in between therapy sessions.
-
Identifying and putting in place strategies to support communication (such as Makaton signing or using pictures and symbols)
-
Identifying changes that can be made to the environment at home, nursery or school to faciliate your child's communication.
-
Equipping you with the skills and confidence you need to support your child's developing communication skills. This may be through giving you advice on how to incorporate speech therapy strategies into your day to day activities, giving you training on how to use alternative systems of communication such as Makaton signing or PECS*, or using parent - child interaction therapy to help you adapt your communication in order to encourage the development of your child's language skills.
*The Picture Exchange Communication System - a system of communicating using pictures, which can be very successful with children with a range of learning and communication difficulties, including Autism.
"It's been a fantastic experience for Reece. It's been great seeing him develop more and knowing it's with Sarah's help."
For children with speech and language difficulties, being at nursery or school brings particular challenges. Small Talkers supports children in nurseries and schools by providing on-site visits, on-site therapy, written programs and support and advice for staff.
